Hello, Vesper: why we built a better terminal multiplexer

Every power user who lives in the command line has felt it. That tiny moment of friction that, compounded hundreds of times a day, becomes a massive drain on focus. For us, the final straw wasn't just the clunky configuration or the endless plugins—it was the nested session.

Today, we're excited to introduce Vesper. To understand what it is, you first have to understand the frustration that built it.

The problem: the 'double prefix dance'

You're running a multiplexer locally. You `ssh` into a production box and attach to the `tmux` session running there. Suddenly, your muscle memory is your enemy. You press `Ctrl-a` `c` to create a new window, and it happens on your local machine. To send the command to the remote server, you have to perform the clumsy "double prefix dance." It breaks your flow and forces you to think about your tools instead of your task.

Our core principles

• Solve the real, hard problems. Vesper's native remote tabs are an architectural solution to the nested session problem, not just a workaround.
• Your tools should be smart, not just passive. Vesper can automatically run scripts to configure your environment for you, every single time you open a new pane.
• Offer a truly flexible layout. We believe you should be able to break the grid when you need to. That's why Vesper allows you to toggle any pane into a floating overlay, and then snap it back into place.

This is just the beginning

We're launching with a product we're proud of because it solves problems we've personally faced. But this is just the start. Vesper is open-source, and we want to build it with the community that needs it most. We invite you to install it, try it out, and tell us what you think.
